OUR BEGINNING

The Harlem Torch Magazine originally began in 2000 as a business resource magazine for a community development project, Urban Systems Development Corporation, to assist neighborhood enterprises through the city of New York’s Department of Business Services. Gentrification was rapidly displacing long time businesses in Harlem and publicity was a key way for us to raise awareness.
In July 2008, HTQ re-launched as a Harlem lifestyle magazine with a formal reception at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Technology was quickly changing the way the world received information, and in keeping pace, the company branched out to include multiple media streams.
Today, the publication has evolved from business and political roots and through the eyes of a new generation, grown beyond a premier lifestyle magazine for Harlem, to a multimedia vehicle with a global outlook. Taking our heights to the cloud, and also saving trees, we tossed the paper publication and expanded our properties. We now create, share and produce stories through events, music, video streaming, brand marketing and unlimited creative possibilities.

Our properties now include Harlem Torch Magazine, LLC., Harlem Torch Recordings, Looking In (television production), and Keira Wesley Music under the umbrella, HTQ Multimedia Group.
